Let's Get You To Bar Harbor
We can't wait to see you downeast, which is ironic because most of you will be traveling up and west, but that's just what you say when you're going to Maine. Now that you're speaking like you know where you're going, let's talk about how you're going to get there:
AIRPORT
There are flights into Bar Harbor, via Boston, but you may be able to find cheaper flights by flying into either Bangor International Airport (BGR) or Portland International Jetport (PWM). Both are pretty beautiful drives to Bar Harbor (especially in the fall!), so it may be the move to rent a car from there and get your leaf-peeping on. Bangor is about 90 minutes out, while Portland is about three hours. Alternatively, from Bangor, you can Lyft, Uber, or cab, arrange a carpool, or check out the shuttle services to Bar Harbor. Flying into Bar Harbor? It's a small enough airport that flights only get posted a few months in advance - keep an eye out for routes from American, Allegiant, Delta, and United!
BUS
There is a bus depot in Bangor if you're traveling from Boston, Portland, or anywhere in-between. See the notes under plane travel on transportation from Bangor to Bar Harbor. Once you're in Bar Harbor, the Island Explorer can take you around the island and Acadia for free!
CAR
Driving? That's great!
Bar Harbor is about 8 hours from New York, 5 hours from Boston, and 3 hours from Portland. If you're looking to see more of Maine, feel free to fly into Portland and drive north to Bar Harbor.
